Held on 30 July 2025 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, The Big Meet—hosted by DFAT—brought together alumni, professionals, and development partners to explore collaboration opportunities in Australia’s Development Program in Fiji and the Pacific.
Attending as a representative of Australia Awards Alumni Fiji, I found the event inclusive and enlightening. The Big Meet welcomed diverse voices from across sectors—civil society, academia, NGOs, and private contractors. It was a space for learning and reflection, offering participants a better understanding of how they could contribute meaningfully to Fiji’s development through partnerships with DFAT.
The event was structured to provide both strategic insights and practical tools. Key takeaways included:
• Insightful Presentations: A comprehensive overview of DFAT’s development priorities and procurement processes.
• Infrastructure Pipeline: Updates on major upcoming projects in health, education, and transport sectors.
• Project Details: Clear breakdowns of project scopes, timelines, and expected outcomes to help potential partners align their proposals.
• Proposal and Bidding Guidance: Expert advice on transparent and effective methods for applying for DFAT-funded initiatives.
• Success Factors: Emphasis on clarity, sustainability, and community impact as essential elements of winning proposals.
The Big Meet reaffirmed the role of alumni as development catalysts and drivers of positive change. Let’s build on this momentum—reach out, collaborate, and lead initiatives that shape a more inclusive and sustainable future for Fiji.
